Dr. Pohl:
I want to make sure you know what medications we are actually talking about. Opioids, or narcotics, are derivatives of opium; the strongest might be Fentanyl, which comes in a patch form, Duragesic®, or in a dissolvable sucker form called the Actiq. Methadone is used for pain and is an opioid. Hydrocodone, Vicodin, Lortab, Norco are opioids. Oxycodone, Percodan, Percocet, Tylox, OxyContin®, Codeine, Darvon–there’s a lot of different kinds of opioids, and if you have any question, look at your prescription bottle and Google the name and you will find out.
