Songs in the Rains

Rate This

Pleasures of the skin
Kissing the drops
One by one they come
Toward mother earth
Like honey they slide
Awakening every sense
That ever was present
My dreamy eye lids
Raise like curtains
Over the stage
Looking into the blues
Drinking the feelings
Those unexpected guests

Souls and hearts
That euphoric pulses
How much power and passion
That one drop of cool
Generate in my mind
I thank my stars
For being alive
For this day and forth!

Just imagine if a novice like me could write like this what all those great poets and lyrics could do! That is the magic of rain. When I was a little girl I used to love to walk in the rain. When it rained I would hardly get inside until my mother started raising her voice. There were days I wanted to just get wet in the rain all day long instead of going to school so I would make up some story to skip it. Rainy season is the best time of the year for me even after so many years. Sometimes that little girl in me comes out and takes me into the rain getting wet, feeling those cool drops, sticking my tongue out to taste them. Of course, I know I cannot trust that water to be as clean as when I was small, but hey when you are having fun, who cares right? As I grew up these rains gave me sweet dreams that were so appropriate for a teenager. Just getting my clothes wet gave me warm sensations inside that lasted all night. I still remember holding hands and making out with my husband as a newlywed one of those rainy nights sitting on the terrace watching the city lights glimmer in the wetness and the whole grey skies opening up a world of joys.

Rainy season as it was even twenty years ago is not the same anymore. People got busier with survival struggles. Nobody has time to look outside the window to watch those drop falling down and giving the sweet and wet aromas of mother earth. Some of our children probably never went into the rain once in their life time. Now we worry about getting sick if we got wet or our children do. We don't want to have to skip office or school. That one sick day would cost us. Staying in bed watching the rain outside the window just doing nothing but listening to some soft music soothes our minds.

Rainy season for most people is boring and depressing because of the cloudiness and dark days. People get sick more often in this season. Flus, coughs, fevers and colds are very common in children as well as adults. Wetness encourages germs to grow and spread anywhere. Doctors offices are busy in this season. Immunity levels are low in people suffering from long term illnesses like diabetes. Being indoors makes our moods somber. In some regions of the world it rains constantly year 'round and depression rates are high.

Moods and seasons go hand in hand. When the sun is out every living being is awake and alive. When the sky is grey no one wants to do anything but just be lazy. Exercise is the last thing that is in the mind. Boredom leads to over eating which in turn causes weight gain which leads to sickness. Drinking water is the last thing people think in rainy season or winter. But we do need to realize that we are water based and with the heaters going on in cars, offices and homes we are always dehydrated and we need to replenish our water levels. Water is the lifeline for any living being in order to flush out illnesses.

These are a few pointers for people who want to enjoy the rainy season without getting sick:

1. Drink plenty of water even if you have use the toilets umpteen times a day
2. Eat healthy foods such as salads, greens, chicken, fish and complex carbohydrates
3. Avoid eating desserts or sugary products as they tend to make our metabolism slow
4. Exercise at least for half hour a day which keeps you active and going
5. Wear warm clothes and cover your feet
6. Take warm or eat hot foods like chicken soup, vegetable soups, stews, hot cocoa, and warm milk to keep the body temperature up (The Chinese keep huge water flasks with hot boiling water and constantly drink to keep themselves warm in harsh winter weather)
7. Even if you get wet like me make sure you dry your hair mainly so you won't catch cold
8. And last but not least, if you feel like getting wet and playing in the rain, Please, do not hesitate to go out there and drench yourself. You will see it lifted your spirits and made you happy.

And that's what counts at the end, to do what makes us happy and healthy without getting in trouble because, OUR LIFE MATTERS.
