Dr. Pohl shares what a woman should do if she if suffering silently with pain.

Dr. Pohl:
Speak up! You know, this is not something that should be experienced in silence. One of the things we found that works most effectively with people with chronic pain incidentally as it does with chronic addictive disease is to hook up with other people who have the same experience. It’s a very isolating experience to have pain.

Typically, people who have chronic pain, women who have chronic pain are isolated from their friends, their family. People just don’t understand, and sometimes the symptoms of chronic pain alienate people even more.

Doctors aren’t supportive. Clinicians sometimes aren’t supportive, so, you know, the medical system in general doesn’t nurture people with chronic pain, and it is through nurturing that people really recover from this experience.
