WHO Readies to Declare Swine Flu Pandemic

THURSDAY, June 11 (HealthDay News) -- The World Health Organization was set on Thursday to declare the first influenza pandemic since 1968, caused by the H1N1 virus's rapid spread in North America, Australia, South America, Europe and regions beyond, health officials said.

WHO convened an emergency teleconference, scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. EDT, to discuss the situation with leading flu experts, the Associated Press reported. Health officials from Indonesia, Scotland and Thailand have said that WHO would likely declare a swine flu pandemic after that conference.

A surge in cases of H1N1 swine flu in Australia might have tipped the balance and made a pandemic declaration likely, agency officials said Tuesday.

Cases in Australia rose by more than 1,000 on Monday, with most occurring in the southern state of Victoria. Rapid spread of the virus in a region beyond North America has been considered a key factor in labeling the outbreak a pandemic.

On Thursday, Indonesia's health minister, Siti Fadilah Supari, said that WHO had notified her that "today will be declared to be phase 6," the pandemic level of the outbreak.

who gives a hoot about the pig flu, 50 million people have cancer, the world health organization should declare war on cancer not the flu. Who is created by the same people who created our central bank cartel (FED) and the WORLD Trade organization and the WORLD Bank for the same goal of global Oligarchy by different means. The Who will give the world's seed to monsanto and neglect us all by outlawing nutrients in food, with codex alimentarius. The world Trade organization will sanction with it's full authority any nation state that does not make it's self codex compliant. Monsanto will have the growth hormone that will be in all beef, chicken, pork, rice and beans. All food, will be genetically modified with monsanto's mutagenic growth hormone.

lol. Americans always seem to want to declare war on something...crime! drugs! terrorism! and now...cancer? War on cancer?! I don't think that's exactly how it works...In any case monsanto will be the least of your problems once the Federal Reserve has achieved it's goal of getting everyone chipped and thoroughly under control.

If a person becomes sick with swine flu, antiviral drugs can make the illness milder and make the patient feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. For treatment, antiviral drugs work best if started soon after getting sick (within 2 days of symptoms). Beside antivirals, palliative care, at home or in hospital, focuses on controlling fevers and maintaining fluid balance. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the use of Tamiflu (oseltamivir) or Relenza (zanamivir) for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses; however, the majority of people infected with the virus make a full recovery without requiring medical attention or antiviral drugs. The virus isolates in the 2009 outbreak have been found resistant to amantadine and rimantadine.

In the U.S., on April 27, 2009, the FDA issued Emergency Use Authorizations to make available Relenza and Tamiflu antiviral drugs to treat the swine influenza virus in cases for which they are currently unapproved. The agency issued these EUAs to allow treatment of patients younger than the current approval allows and to allow the widespread distribution of the drugs, including by non-licensed volunteers.

In short, Swine Flu is about as deadly as a normal flu virus. The only people who have been dying of Swine Flu are the people who are not taking care of themselves when they catch it and would most likely be the same sorts of people who would also perish from a normal Flu Virus.

Notice the mention of keeping the fever down and drinking lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. Those are the same remedies for a normal flu virus, that and Tamiflu... which is not exactly hard to acquire, and is used for a normal flu virus.

In the end, the remedy for the flu has, and always will be, common sense and taking care of yourself. The reason it's reaching Pandemic proportions is because the vast majority of people in the world are ignorant.

141 deaths world wide? There have been 13,000 deaths attributed to regular flu since January this year in the US. I really wish people would quit freaking out this swine flu "pandemic."
