WHO Readies to Declare Swine Flu Pandemic
"We are getting really very close to knowing that we are in a pandemic situation," WHO influenza chief Keiji Fukuda said in Geneva on Tuesday.
He said the agency was concerned about the possible "adverse effects" of moving the alert from its current status of phase 5 to the highest level, phase 6, indicating a full pandemic, the AP reported. Fukuda cited concerns over possible panic among the public or inappropriate steps taken by governments.
However, "on the surface of it, I think we are in phase 6," Margaret Chan, the WHO's director-general, had also noted on Tuesday. According to Chan, it is crucial to verify that H1N1 has become established beyond North America before a pandemic is declared. "Once I get indisputable evidence, I will make the announcement," she said.
On Wednesday, Chan held a teleconference with representatives from eight countries with large swine flu outbreaks to determine if a pandemic should be declared.
According to the latest WHO data, there are now 27,737 reported cases of swine flu infection across 74 countries, including 141 deaths. That includes 13,217 cases and 27 deaths reported as of June 5 in the United States by officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

who gives a hoot about the pig flu, 50 million people have cancer, the world health organization should declare war on cancer not the flu. Who is created by the same people who created our central bank cartel (FED) and the WORLD Trade organization and the WORLD Bank for the same goal of global Oligarchy by different means. The Who will give the world's seed to monsanto and neglect us all by outlawing nutrients in food, with codex alimentarius. The world Trade organization will sanction with it's full authority any nation state that does not make it's self codex compliant. Monsanto will have the growth hormone that will be in all beef, chicken, pork, rice and beans. All food, will be genetically modified with monsanto's mutagenic growth hormone.
Shhhh, shhhhh, shhhhh. It's ok. The tin-foil hat will make the voices stop.
lol. Americans always seem to want to declare war on something...crime! drugs! terrorism! and now...cancer? War on cancer?! I don't think that's exactly how it works...In any case monsanto will be the least of your problems once the Federal Reserve has achieved it's goal of getting everyone chipped and thoroughly under control.
If a person becomes sick with swine flu, antiviral drugs can make the illness milder and make the patient feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. For treatment, antiviral drugs work best if started soon after getting sick (within 2 days of symptoms). Beside antivirals, palliative care, at home or in hospital, focuses on controlling fevers and maintaining fluid balance. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the use of Tamiflu (oseltamivir) or Relenza (zanamivir) for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses; however, the majority of people infected with the virus make a full recovery without requiring medical attention or antiviral drugs. The virus isolates in the 2009 outbreak have been found resistant to amantadine and rimantadine.
In the U.S., on April 27, 2009, the FDA issued Emergency Use Authorizations to make available Relenza and Tamiflu antiviral drugs to treat the swine influenza virus in cases for which they are currently unapproved. The agency issued these EUAs to allow treatment of patients younger than the current approval allows and to allow the widespread distribution of the drugs, including by non-licensed volunteers.
In short, Swine Flu is about as deadly as a normal flu virus. The only people who have been dying of Swine Flu are the people who are not taking care of themselves when they catch it and would most likely be the same sorts of people who would also perish from a normal Flu Virus.
Notice the mention of keeping the fever down and drinking lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. Those are the same remedies for a normal flu virus, that and Tamiflu... which is not exactly hard to acquire, and is used for a normal flu virus.
In the end, the remedy for the flu has, and always will be, common sense and taking care of yourself. The reason it's reaching Pandemic proportions is because the vast majority of people in the world are ignorant.
141 deaths world wide? There have been 13,000 deaths attributed to regular flu since January this year in the US. I really wish people would quit freaking out this swine flu "pandemic."
