Learning to Control Pain After Back Surgery

April 14, 2009 - 11:51am 497 reads 1 comments

Yeah! I finally spoke to the pain med guy, Jeff who I have worked with in the past. It looks like we are finally going to try to switch things up to get the pain under control. We are starting ASAP by increasing my Fentanyl patch, Neurontin, and incorporate some sort of sleep aid. I will still have my trusty Dilaudid as a back up for break through pain, but the Oxycontin will be eliminated.

This is the first time that I have been by myself in a long time. Christine left this morning to head back to Boston and Wes’s mother gets in tomorrow. I am extremely restless and ready to move on with life! I feel great except for the pain and I just have this aggravating feeling of my life wasting away in this hospital. I should be at home right now or doing something! I think the only thing that comes to mind is that I am in a complete state of boredom. I am sick of waiting for next steps! I am tired of reading, researching, TV, and talking on the phone. Next thing I know, I will be taking up some new hobby like knitting just to pass the time. Maybe I just need an attitude change! I should probably be enjoying this time not feeling sick because there will be much of that to come I’m sure of it.
