Nausea

June 29, 2009 - 7:21am 395 reads 2 comments

Just when I thought that things were starting to look up, I start to get sick again! The past couple of days I have felt pretty good. I have been quite mobile, moving around like normal without a huge amount of pain. The pain in my hip and back hasn’t been too bothersome, except if I am walkng for a long period of time or accidently bend in an awkward position. The only thing that has been bothering me is the nausea I have been feeling. I have this constant hangover-like feeling that just won’t go away. I have tried Zofran (antinausea drug), Tylenol, Ibuprofen 800, pain killers, ginger, and nothing seems to work for a long period of time.

On Friday, I had to go to Cancer Treatment Centers to get my tattoos for the radiation this Wednesday (they mark you so they know how to line up the lasers). Afterward, Lisa and I went to the cafe to get something to drink, and I ended up running into Megan Dooley’s sister who I guess had heard of me through her sister and had seen me in photos. She introduced herself and we chatted for awhile. She told me they had an on-site clinic similiar to a Nextcare that I could go to for the nausea.

Ten minutes later we were checking into the clinic and I was getting hooked up to an IV. Within 20 minutes, we saw the internal medicine doctor and he prescribed me some medicine, did some tests and I had some X-rays done. We were in and out in about three hours, and I felt slightly better from the Zofran via IV they had administered. We also left with some take-home meds to help with the UTI I had as well. This was such a huge difference from the ER room at the other hospitals!

Over the weekend, my stepbrother Jason came to visit from Atlanta. Lisa, Jason, Wes and I got some rooms at the Firesky resort to “get away” and relax for the weekend. I have to say that we were disappointed in the hotel. The rooms had a funky smell to them, our bathroom shower was clogged, which made it feel like I was taking a shower in bathwater - yuck! I tried for 25 minutes to get on the wi-fi this morning. I kept being passed around from tech support to customer service and there was still no solution, so I finally gave up.

Melissa, thank you for writing about your experiences at CTCA vs your previous experiences with other hospitals and/or ERs. It's very interesting to learn the differences, even though I know we all wish we weren't learning so much at your expense. I hope the nausea gets under control soon and you can have your surgery. And it seems like more of a rest and a relief than your "resort" was over the weekend. My only question is this: You're actually still a brave enough woman to try on swimsuits?!? You go, girl!
