Fibromyalgia: Does Pregabalin (Lyrica) Relieve Pain? Part 2

August 7, 2009 - 5:28am 775 reads 2 comments

The results

Symptomatic pain relief was achieved in patients at all doses of Pregabalin when it was compared to the sugar pill. Further, patients with fibromyalgia also showed global mood improvement, and reported good sleeping scores.

The two most common side effects of the drug observed in some patients were dizziness and sleepiness. These side effects were more common with higher doses of the drug.

This study supports the use of Pregabalin for the treatment of pain and sleep disturbances in patients with fibromyalgia. The drug is relatively safe and does work in a significant majority of patients. However, one should be aware that Lyrica does not come cheap. The average cost for a 150 mg pill taken three times a day for a month ranges from $ 175-$200.

I took lyrica and it helped me a lot I have had fibro for over 15 years so I was really happy to find something that started to work, I had to stop it because my hands and feet would swell, my feet werent too bad but my fingers would swell to the point of I couldnt close my hand, make a fist or even write, they hurt too :(

lyrica is a great drug but it does cause dizziness and lightheadedness. A common side effect reported is swelling on the hands and feet. Some experts recommend elevating the limbs to relieve the swelling or wearing compressive stockings.
