Sarah Palin in Going Rogue": "We Were Devastated" by Daughter Bristol's Teen Pregnancy
This will be Sarah Palin’s week. She’s traveling around the country in a bus painted to look like the cover of her book, “Going Rogue,” which comes out Tuesday (and was No. 1 on Amazon.com's bestseller list long before release). Oprah has a sit-down interview with her today, and we started seeing clips from it last week. Barbara Walters has nearly taped a mini-series, parts of which will air on Good Morning America, ABC News, Nightline and 20/20. It’s a sure bet that the interview will be a hot topic on The View, as well.
If you visit your local bookstore, undoubtedly you’ll see Palin’s book displayed front and center, and she’ll be on the cover of numerous magazines. The media blitz will certainly cover everything from Palin’s disastrous Katie Couric interview to her infighting with John McCain’s campaign staff to her views on the current administration, including notes on now Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. (Along the way, it wouldn’t even be a surprise to see a nod to Tina Fey.)
Some see the book as a revenge play, where Palin finally gets to have her say; others as a grand gesture to present herself as the viable candidate of the future. Politics is politics, after all. But the book is also something else: a new glimpse into a world where a mother of five children deals with rumors

I am going to go out on a limb here: No woman since Eleanor Roosevelt has done more to further the cause of progressive politics in the United States of America than our Sarah.

She, to me, is a very scary person. She is embarrasingly dumb and so are the people that vote for her.
She was, happily in the end, used to make the republicans seem more attractive but it certainly backfired on them! Yeah!
It's pretty sad that so many people WANT their potential leaders to be so lacking in intelligence and vision. Personally, I LIKE my leaders to be more than an ex beauty queen with a conservative agenda. May Obama continue trying to fix this country...if it's possible!
I will NOT be buying her book, needless to say and if she EVER gets into power, will probably leave the country!

I'm not adverse to reading her book. I read books written by people on all sides (there are more than two!) of the political scene, and I listen to talk radio by both conservatives and liberals, as well as libertarians (yay!) and socialists. I have always thought it must be terribly boring to only read and listen to people we're in agreement with. If my head were to bob up and down in agreement all day, I'd get whiplash. I enjoy the mental arguments I have with those I disagree with and I think it's important to really listen to what our "opponents" are saying instead of getting their opinions second hand.
Sarah Palin falls into the category of people I vehemently disagree with on many issues. But she is a human, woman, a mother, a careerist and a resident of the same country as I. So we have all that in common. Like her, I'd be horrified if my teenager (either boy or girl) came home announcing a pregnancy and she has my empathy on those levels.
From a political standpoint, we don't share much. And as a vegetarian, we DEFINITELY don't share much!
I studied the political machines extensively in college, from Tammany Hall to the GOP, to Stalin's cult of personality to the Third Reich and beyond. It is fascinating to me. I find the few months of "Sarah Palin" mania this summer and autumn to be an incredible peek into how America's new GOP works and how her training and grooming process came into being, as well as the mistakes she made.
She was also under intense pressure, pressure that Barack Obama was not placed under. The reasons why are up in the air for some and crystal clear for others. She was a woman, a hunter, had a pregnant teen and baby with special needs (and a few other kids in between!). She was scrutinized every which way with regard to her governorship and her accent and mannerisms were mocked mercilessly. Had people mocked Obama like that, we would have been screaming racism. She was criticized for going back to work soon after having a baby, while the Obama's were praised for getting through tough times in their marriage due to Barack not being there a lot for his kids.
If we're going to truly see both sides, then let's admit that all was not fair in the summer and fall of 2009.
I'm glad Obama won. I even contributed to his campaign, even though I'm not a citizen and couldn't vote for him. But I am still interested in hearing all sides and understanding all sides and I need neither Bill Maher nor Rush Limbaugh to interpret for me. By listening, reading and watching all aspects of the political machine, I'll make up my own mind. Turning my back and saying "I turn off the radio/TV as soon as I hear them speak" will do me a disservice, not them. It doesn't mean I'll come out loving any particular agenda. But it does allow me to widen my mind and expand my horizons so that when I fight for my "side", I can know where the other side is coming from.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer, folks!
I really like her, I think she's a human like the rest of us not immune to family struggles. I think I'm going to read her book from the library, though, not buy it. I think it was a big step for her to be on Oprah. I can't stand Oprah, but it shows she's reaching out to the more liberal audiences and isn't afraid of another interviewer like Katie Couric (who is ugly and I cannot stand her).
