Jennifer, I didn't realize how many conditions could be treated by acupuncture. My husband had some success with acupuncture after he felt some pain in his upper back. He actually had the cupping. Would you mind explaining how the cupping procedure differs from acupuncture and why an acupuncturist would choose it over other treatments? Thanks.

Jennifer D

Acupuncture is the use of needles while Cupping is an ancient technique that involves attaching a jar on to the skin by way of a vacuum. The underlying tissue is raised, or sucked, partway into the cup. Its purpose is to restore circulation, help relieve pain and pull toxins from the body tissue.
More often than not Cupping is used in conjunction with Acupuncture treatments. I will generally include cupping in a treatment
if a patient has stagnation going on. I also use it quite commonly for back pain as well as fevers,Colds and Allergies.

Thanks for the Question

From time to time I've thought about trying acupuncture for my depression, but I have no idea how to get started on it or who would be good. I imagine there are bad acupuncturists as well as good ones out there. How do I find a good one? And how often would I need to go?

Jennifer D

Hi Optimist - The easiest place to start looking for someone would be on the website www.acufinder.com .
They have a large database of practioners all over the Country. Find a few people in your area and check out their Bio's many have links to their websites as well. Make sure whoever you see meets your state's requirements to practice.

I hope it works out for you
