Annoying hot weather issue: monkey butt
SHARED by samiam on May 16, 2008 - 7:39pm
Whenever the weather gets particularly hot and humid, I get an annoying irritation between the buttocks. Athletes call this "monkey butt," and the treatment of choice is called Anti-Monkey Butt Powder. I kid you not!
Excessive sweat from sports like cycling or horseback riding, long runs in heat and humidity (I'm a distance runner), or just sitting on your rear for long periods of time, can cause this condition. Baby powder, or the Anti-Monkey Butt Powder, and wearing natural fiber, looser clothing can help alleviate the problem and aid the skin in healing.

I've been enlightened ... Do you know of any other products that help with this issue?
As a distance runner, and living in Central Texas where it can get oppressively hot and humid, "monkey butt syndrome" is sometimes an issue among my running buddies and other athletes I know, and the Anti-Monkey Butt folks just happen to be based in Texas. My youngest sister is a triathlete, her husband a cyclist, living in Washington State and they requested a care package of the powder. I even came across a woman in North Carolina who asked me to send her some for her cyclist friends, LOL!
Other products that can help are probably in your bathroom or kitchen cabinets already: baby or talcum powder, corn starch. For those of you with very young children, products for diaper rash also work.
There's another product called Boudreaux’s Butt Paste (yep), originally intended for diaper rash, that some ultra adventure athletes "swear" by.
For some people, though, sweaty bottom leads to fungal problems, much like athlete's foot, and need medical attention.
