What a great reminder. In addition to all of the great prevention measures above, the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona says that for adults, "learning" CPR can make the difference between life and death."

CPR, the organization says, is "especially critical in cases of child drowning emergencies, because immediate restoration of oxygen to the child's brain is critical. Many believe that the process of learning or refreshing CPR also renews the importance of other water safety efforts for parents, such as supervision and fencing."

The American Red Cross offers CPR training classes. To find out about classes in your area, visit http://www.redcross.org/SERVICES/HSS/courses/ .. Your local Y may also be a good source to find out more about CPR traning.
