Alice discusses what motivates her to advocate for women with osteoporosis.
Alice:
I am motivated to help others because I don’t want to see anybody go down the road I have been on. It’s hell. There’s no other way to put it. And I will see people in the grocery store with the hunchback, I’ll ask them, “Do you have osteoporosis?” And then I would go ahead and tell them my story. If I have a book, usually I carry my book in my purse, I will sign it and give it to them.
On an airline flight not long ago I had a stewardess ask me if I still needed wheelchair when we got to our next destination, and I said yes. And she said, “Can I ask what your problem is because I don’t see anything physical?” And I told her I had osteoporosis and she said, “My mother has it and I have just started a prevention treatment.” I signed a book and gave it to her.
I just, I talk to anybody. If it will help one person it was worth everything I have done because what I have been through has been very traumatic.
