Annette explains what she tells women who are newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Annette:
First of all, when a woman is diagnosed, I honor where she is and what is happening to her, because women are often told, “Well, don’t feel like that,” or “Don’t have that outlook because it’s not going to help you,” and we need to honor where a woman is.
When this cancer happens to a woman, it is the most shocking experience that you can imagine. It is literally like a boulder has just fallen on top of you, and a woman who has this disease is entitled to feel exactly what she feels. She is entitled to have her fear, her anger, her disappointment, whatever those experiences are, she should be first acknowledged, and then we begin the dialogue.
