Annette explains if she decided to participate in an ovarian cancer clinical trial.
Annette:
It was an ovarian cancer. It was a general clinical trial, yes.
I have been in a clinical trial, and I was very apprehensive about it at first. The concern I had was that these would be on untested drugs, I wasn’t sure what the side-effects might be, would I have long-term problems that hadn’t been anticipated, and it’s just very frightening. I was thinking that you might be guinea pig for some very experimental drug. I was pleasantly surprised.
Treatments that I had not responded to in conventional treatment, responded to the clinical trial drug. It was very easy for me to take, did not cost me a cent, and I have since found that many women who have these difficult cancers stay alive because of clinical trials that they are in. So I am actually considering going back into one now because my cancer has come back, and we know that I was responsive.
