Kay-Kayes shares how joining The Wellness Community helped her make good health-care decisions.
They helped define "normal" in my life again because as a cancer patient, and especially going through treatments, you can’t go to the mall and escape, you know, the four walls of the house, you know. You can’t do a lot of things like go to ball games and that because your immune system is down. So you still need to have that social contact, and I needed to see that light.
I met my very first survivor at the wellness community which, I can’t tell you what that meant to me. It's always a two-way street though. I was able to encourage him and he gave me a lot of hope also.
That was my third occurrence. The fourth occurrence was, it was on my lungs and I was still in my group at The Wellness Community, and I was just ready to graduate again. I thought, I need, you know, it’s probably time for me to move on but then this re-occurred and the education, the strength, the friendship that I got from my support there, helped me to make some very good health-care decisions.
