Parents: How Can They Nuture A Child's Goals?

Rate This

Robyn McKay discusses the best ways for parents to encourage children to reach for their goals.

Robyn McKay:
There is a difference between nurturing your child’s own goals and overlaying your own goals and dreams on top of hers. First tip is be aware. “Is this my child’s dream or is that mine?”

That’s a really important piece and sometimes parents get very wrapped up in their child’s activities and become very involved. I call them helicopter parents actually, and actually what we need to be very careful of is allowing a creative child to have her own interests and to explore the world in her own way.

So, taking a supportive yet a little bit hands off approach and allowing her to find her own way is going to be a very important thing and trusting her that she will find her way is also a really important tip for parents to start practicing.
