The Top Ten Baby Products
When I was pregnant with my first child, I was overwhelmed. How would I ever find the most useful baby products? With so many products available, it is difficult to know what you should really spend your money on or register for. It was extremely helpful to me to be able to view products online and see other buyers feedback. Also, companies are always developing and improving products. I found things with my second and third child that I didn’t have with my first. Here are my top ten favorites, in no particular order.
10. The Baby Bjorn
This front carrier was such a huge help. I used it from the time that I came home from the hospital until my boys were pushing the weight limit. (For them it was about 8 or 9 months.) When the babies are newborns, I used it to carry them around the house because it helped them to stay close to me and I could still move around with my hands free. I also carried it with me in the car because there were SO many times that it was helpful to use it when I was out. I also liked the fact that strangers didn’t really try to touch my baby because he was so close to me. It was machine washable and after being used for 3 babies it STILL looks great! Loved the Bjorn! We bought ours at Babies R Us.
9. The Bouncy Seat
All my kids were a little different when it came to liking swings or jumpers but all three LOVED the bouncy seat. I liked the Fisher Price models (we had two) that rewarded the kids by triggering the sound of the toys on the bar when they kicked their feet. As newborns, they mostly slept in the bouncy. The vibration was soothing and they slept great without forming any dependent habits with it. (They still were all good about sleeping in their crib at night.) As they grew, they loved to play in it with the toy bar. I also discovered that it was a lifesaver when my kids had ear infections because they could sleep without having to lay flat. I want to add that you should ALWAYS use the safety strap and discontinue using the product once baby can sit up on his/her own. These can be found at Babies R Us, Target and other retailers.
8. Pacifier Holder
We value and respect the experiences of all of our HERWriters, but everyone is different. Many of our writers are speaking from personal experience, and what's worked for them may not work for you. Their articles are not a substitute for medical advice although we hope you can gain knowledge from their insight.

April 27, 2009 - 8:21amThings have come a long way since I had my kids!
The Baby Bjorn was available, though, with my firstborn, and I absolutely loved it. I always had a couple of extra cloth diapers (the old-fashioned unquilted ones) to use as burp towels, and a little handmade quilt (I made one for each of my 3 kids) that multi-tasked as high-chair pad, car blanket, etc.
I miss "those days." Then again, I'm glad I don't have to carry around so much stuff anymore, LOL!
Have fun with your little ones!
April 13, 2009 - 8:11pmThanks for the great list :) One of my indispensibles is my HANAMUGURI baby carrier from Zuigeling.com http://www.zuigeling.com/product.php?id_product=10
I have one in the house and one in my car... I can never leave home without it :)
April 14, 2009 - 6:43amI agree with the table topper products too! Once our babies were past the newborn stage, we never left home without the table mat product or the disposible bibs. We used both everytime that we ate at restaurants. We got comments from EVERYONE about what a great idea they are. I felt good that my kids were staying as germ free as possible AND the designs on the mat kept them busy for a while. They probably have new things out that I don't even know about. Worth your money!!!
April 14, 2009 - 1:57pmI could not live without these products:
1. Burts Bees Buttermilk Soap for babies. It is great on delicate skin!
2. Boppy pillow for breastfeeding; it's amazing how tired your arms get (plus, if you have a vaginal delivery, it was a great "C"-ring pillow to sit on for some extra cushion)
3. Disposable changing pads. THESE are a necessity, right along with the disposable diaper bags. It is not environmentally friendly, but just using them for a year was a big help. Who wants to put a kid on an already-used Koala changing table, even on the pad brought from home? I felt much better having an extra physical barrier, and they are waterproof and take up virtually no room in diaper bag.
Oh, and I haven't really noticed a difference with brands, so if moms want to get the cheaper version, I'd say go for it!
April 14, 2009 - 2:45pmOh yes, the Boppy! I loved it for nursing. I used it once my kids could hold up their heads and I put them on it to courage tummy time play. They all loved looking at the design. I even used it for my babies as they were learning to sit up. I would put it around them and if they fell over, it protected them. I have had mine for 6 years and have washed the entire thing many, many times. It still looks great and hasn't gotten lumpy at all. A fantastic product!
April 20, 2009 - 11:59amoh, how I miss the Robeez days!!!

And one of the best things to get; The best way to clean cloth diapers is to pre-rinse them off in the toilet using a Hand Bathroom Bidet Sprayer. So convenient and if you are trying to help the environment (and your pocket book) you can give it a double whammy by virtually eliminating toilet paper use at the same time as you benefit from using it on the diapers, by using it on yourself. I think Dr. Oz on Oprah said it best: "if you had pee or poop on your hand, you wouldn't wipe it off with paper, would you? You'd wash it off" Available at www.bathroomsprayers.com they come in an inexpensive kit and can be installed without a plumber. And after using one of these you won't know how you lasted all those years with wadded up handfuls of toilet paper. Now we're talking green and helping the environment without any pain.
