Dr. Dao discusses fertility options for men.
Dr. Dao:
For men Chinese medicine is very good for sperm parameter issues. When a man go in and do a semen analysis to check their sperm usually you check several different parameters such as the count, the mortality and the morphology. Sometimes you can also look at the quality and looking at what we call the fragmentation rate, the DNA of the sperm.
In men’s issues a lot of times stress plays a direct role as well as smoking and marijuana usage can all impact greatly, greatly on the fertility of a man.
I usually advise them to obviously avoid smoking, reduce stress level and also not really sit for long period of time. They need to walk about in their work.
People who have desk job tend to have a lower sperm counts and in fact globally we have a decreasing lower sperm count as years go by.
That probably has to do with environmental pollutions which we are not 100 percent having that evidence of yet but I am sure that it will come soon enough.
But what we do is that men, we tell them not to wear restrictive underwear, don’t take too much of hot bath kind of situation, and as well as really reduce stress and exercise regularly and not the least drink plenty of water.
And especially when they are about to do insemination or about to have sexual activity, we usually advise them to drink more fluid around that time and that tends to be usually extremely helpful.
Now in Chinese medicine we will apply, use a combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbs to help to improve the sperm parameters.
There are plenty of studies that have come out from China that has shown that Chinese herb and acupuncture is very effective and very helpful and it does it in a significant way in helping their sperm parameters.
