For the month of July I will be dedicating my blog reading and discussing the book, The Blue Zones Lessons For Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest by Dan Buettner.

Chapter 1: The Truth About Living Longer You May Be Missing Out on Ten Good Years

This chapter talks about the role of aging and personal lifestyle and how all of these impact health and longevity. Experts in the field of aging are asked to define aging; the consensus is that body deteriorates over time either do to toxins or cell death. The natural process is gradual and progressive.

Here is what the experts say about other factors that can affect aging including genetic factors, exercising, supplements and dietary. Genetics can play a part in the longevity process but it is not the only factor. Exercising has been proven time and time again to support healthy living. Different types of exercise support different body systems health. Practicing different types of exercise will help overall health. Vitamin intake is essential for life and getting vitamins and minerals from your diet is the best way to get them. Vitamins from supplements may be appropriate but should not be overdone. Dietary factor or eating in moderation is considered an effective dietary plan.

The final thought that this chapter talks about longevity and enjoying the longer life we all want to create. I love the fact that there is much discussion about how longevity includes quality of life. I think people need to consider how they are living now affects how well they will be able to live life as they get older. This is the purpose of the Blue Zones. It sets the stage for the rest of the book. Happy reading!
