I will SHARE my full story at a later date, but the brief version is that I have suspected I am hypothyroid for the following reasons:
1) lower basal body temperature than what is deemed average
2) TSH level of 3.67
3) many people in my immediate family with hypothyroidism
4) symptoms of hypothyroidism
So, I have figured out the next step is to take the hi-its tpo antibody test. From what I have learned, it detects if someone had Hashimoto's or Graves'(see link: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/thyroid-disease/AN00806)
The next issue is to figure out how to take this test & have it covered my my health insurance. Since I do not fit into the category of a traditional hypothyroid case (my TSH, T3 & T4 are all still within what has been accepted by standard medicine -- and my lab -- to be within range) my GP and OB won't do TPO tests for me. Also, if I am able to go the endo route, I want someone who is open to other treatments like Armour Thyroid and who can actually see me in the same month that I book the appointment in!
I will keep you posted....any suggestions are appreciated!
