I don’t know about you, but whenever I read or watch a story about the Top Stories of the Year, I always find myself surprised. So many of the stories seem to have happened a long time ago, not just in the past year. A natural disaster or a political story in February or March – or even the Olympics last summer – already seem separated by time and distance.
Health stories don’t tend to be the same way. They are more ongoing – a big health story this year is likely to have developments and repercussions next year and beyond. But it’s still interesting to see CNN’s lineup of the top health stories of 2008.
What are some of the things CNN put in their top group?
--A court deciding to compensate a family whose daughter developed autism after receiving childhood vaccinations.
--Contaminated peppers and milk sickening people around the world, including infants fed formula in China.
--The American woman who had the fourth face transplant in the world.
--The state of health care reform in the country, and how important it became to voters electing the next president.
