Have you heard of these studies regarding prostate cancer and drinking 8 oz. of pomegranate juice daily?
There have been several studies (one study included 5 of the 6 researchers who worked for a pomegranate-juice making company, which is a fairly significant limitation!), but other research studies have found similar results: drinking pomegranate juice daily has slowed the rate of progression in localized prostate cancer (cancer that had not spread). Another study found that tumors grew at a slower rate with the pomegranate juice consumption treatment, compared to the placebo treatment.
This is great news, as there is a lot of hype about new "superfoods", and it seems as though there is a new exotic berry or fruit every year who's manufacturers claim that we just have to pay hundreds of dollars a month for this new miracle product, in order to have its healthful benefits. I have been skeptical at the marketing of many of these products; I do not doubt that they are healthy, just over-marketed and over-priced, and preying on our hopes for a new cure or alternative. Pomegranates are available through many products, and are also available in the produce section of many mainstream grocery stores.
I thought this was important to share, even on a women's wellness website, as prostate cancer effects our husbands, fathers, brothers and sons, and is the number one most common cancer in American men.
