Spring is beginning for many parts of the US, and it is a good time to stop and think about your skin. If you work in the yard doing any kind of gardening or lawn maintenance, you may have to deal with contact dermatitis from getting into plants to which you are allergic.
After working outside, always wash any exposed areas. If you have seasonal allergies, you may want to shower as well, because you can carry pollens and mold spores inside on your clothes and your hair.
Do you take medications? Now is a good time to check them for the side effect of sun sensitivity. That isn't such an issue in the winter, but sometimes we can forget and spend a little time in the sun and come back in looking like a lobster because of medication.
Always wear sunscreen to protect your skin from premature aging and skin cancer. Try not to do your outside work during the brightest part of the day, usually 10am-2pm. This will lower your risk of sun related problems. However, you should get a little sun every day if possible, to keep your vitamin D levels stoked. More and more studies are finding vitamin D is an important component in immune health.
Check your meds, watch your skin, enjoy the fresh air, and welcome to Spring!
