I have been diagnosed having pneumonia and a small pleural effusion of the left lung (lower lobe).The xrays showed a small effusion .I was put on fortum IV thrice a day and tavinic tab for 5 days .I had chest pain and low grade fever with shortness of breath.Mild cough with metallic taste and mucus with yellowish brown color was seen initilly but after 4 days cough and mucus decreased.pain also came down .I was sent home the 5 th day with antibiotics like levofloxacin,tavinic and pain killer lornoxicam.Though initial symptoms have improved like no fever or cough now I have still a sort of pressure on my left chest while inhaling and sometimes shortness of breath on talking for some time.I sleep with 2-3 pillows as i dont feel comfortable breathing on lying supine.I wanted to know if i am recovering and whether these symptoms will reduce in time or is it normal to feel this way..Doctor has adviced me repeat the x rays after a 5 day course of med at home.I really wish my effusion and infection would show recovery by that time.Please advice I am very much worried.How can one know if effusion has decreased by any other recovery signs.Has anyone felt like this. Hoping for your kind answers.
