I started having vertigo about six months ago every time i layed on my back or on my right side. The room would spin and I'd feel like I was going to throw up. That would last a few seconds and stop.
It came and went. so i pretty much ignored it until it came and stayed. I went to see my holistic ENT, Dr Benjamin Asher http://www.benjaminashermd.com and he immediately sent me for Vestibular Physical Therapy. After just one treatment, the vertigo stopped. in fact it stopped during the treatment. Then i went back 10 more times to re-train my brain so it would not think it was spinning anymore.
I am very lucky that i got practical treatment immediately and not drugs and a whole bunch of tests. I had a hearing test to be sure there was no hearing loss, and there wasn't.
My GP, whom I like a lot, is a very conservative, traditional physician. He told me that he'd heard from patients that vestibular PT works, but that he doesn't understand it.
My opinion: I don't need to understand it. It works!
If you find yourself with vertigo, be sure to ask your dr to send you to a vestibular physical therapist.
