I am a 29 yr old mother of 3. I have had hypo thyroidism for about 8 yrs now. I am still on the same dose of medication, .5 mcg of synthroid. I recently had my labs done and a thyroid ultrasound. My blood work came back normal. My ultrasound however not so much. Right Lobe:5.1x 1.7x2.4 cm. there is a deep lobe, interpolar. Hypo to anechoic round nodule without vascularity measuring maximally 9mm is prestent. There is no calcification. There is a tiny upper lobe cystic nodule measuring 2mm in maximum dimension.
Left Lobe: 4.9x1.7x2.1 cm. There is a small hypoechoic, potentially solid 4 mm nodule within the interpolar gland. No internal vascularity. there may be a punctate calcification.
Isthmus: 0.4 cm. Normal
thyroid echotexture is otherwise normal
Impression: 1. mild thyromegaly. 2. Small nonspecific nodules. Recommand a repeat in 6 months.
I dont understand any of this. My grand mother on my father's side had thyroid cancer but I am being told nothing needs to be done and that I am just fine. I just need to lose wieght. I am doing the gastric bypass to help me lose the weight but I am afraid that my thyroid my be a bigger issue. I want to know what all this means and why they wont do more tests or send me to ENT. Please help.
