I am 61 Years old-I had an ultrasound of the ovaries done because of pelvic pain and it showed a 4cm complex adnexal mass on R.ovary. A abdominal & pelviv CT scan was done and it showed no masses or fluid in the abdominal cavity only the hypoattenuating right ovarian mass with complex features including saptations and mural calcifications. It said differential considerations include both benign and malignant processes. And that ovarian carcinoma cannot be excluded by means of the scan. My gynecologist-Dr.Rotmensch from Rush in chicago does not think it is cancer but says you do not know till it is removed and tested-he suggest removing both ovaries and the uterus by abdominal incision instead of by vagina or laproscopy because there is a possibility that the cyst could rupture and spread if it is malignant. I would like to know if there is a way to test it and find out if it is malignant without doing major surgery--if it is not malignant then I would just like to watch it and not have major surgery at this time. I also have heart issues and would prefer not to go under general anesthesia. So I am trying to get other options if there are any. thank-you. Karen
