I found out yesterday that my first Pap smear came up with a positive result for HPV. I freaked out and had no idea what to do. So, I decided to do research. I've had the Gardasil vaccination all before I turned 19 and have been sexually active since the week after my 18th birthday. I've had ten sexual partners in 3 years, though several months apart. My longest partner was my husband, who raped and abused me, after lying about being a virgin, two of the men I've had sex with were virgins. I know, it sounds pretty bad to admit that by the time I'm 21 and 3/4 years old I've slept with that many guys, but one is my current bf who really doesn't understand as well as he probably should.
I am worried about it being something serious, but I won't be complacent after reading some posts sayign that HPV can clear up mostly on its own. I just really don't know how to react. I feel like its my fault for not protecting myself.
I guess I'm rambling, my question is what the risks are if something serious from having HPV in my system? I gotta go pick up my records and book a copolscopy tuesday to check, and so far its only the virus thats been detected.
