I had my first asthma attack at age 48 and had no idea that it could lead to pneumonia; I had gone all of 2009 with out an asthma attack, but 2010 I had to go back on my normal maintenance asthma meds. In Dec. my doctor said I might have pneumonia and added steroids to my meds; I have had 2 more bouts of pneumonia since Feb. which have resulted in ER and then admitted to the hospital, plus Mar. 27 I fell and shattered my shoulder but could not have surg until Mar 30 as they were attempting to clear up the pneumonia in my left lower lobe!
My last hospitalization was to St. Joe's Sun May 6 at 6 p.m. and released May 14 at 6 p.m.....I couldn't breathe and the doctors were treating me with couple new meds (I had been in the hosp Thurs/Fri May 2/3). Sunday 6th I just couldn't breathe, the later the day the worse it got it was as though a washing machine ringer or rolling pin was at the bottom of my lungs and just moving up taking all the air out...so back to ER and then admitted AGAIN! The doctors gave me IV and more drugs, but I was not improving however they wanted to send me home again but I wouldn't have it, I couldn't sleep and was praying for HELP...finally Thurs I just was screaming and demanding to see my original pulmonologist doctor from 1988, Dr. James Forseth, MD, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonology, Internal Medicine, so Friday noon he came in and he had reviewed the chart and said it had to be one of the new meds, sent me for more x-rays, full pulmonology eval and blood work...that evening his partner Dr. Raza said "yes, it was METOPROLOL TARTA", a beta that they had given me as of May 4 which was the problem. They took me off that med and decreased couple of others and by Sat I was walking the halls without oxygen, slept Sat nite, got up Sun and gave myself shower and washed my own hair. I WAS BACK to being normal, still some coughing but I knew I had turned the corner! I can restart my PT on my shoulder continue my PRAYERS/meditations and begin the work that I want to do. I back to using my medical essential oils, taking long HOT showers, breathing in the steam, then having a friend do a technique called "cupping" to help bring up the last of the "funk" in my lower left lobe. Spitting is a good thing at this point, may not be lady like but healthwise it is a must until I get all the funk out!!!!
I am home, breathing almost normal, able to talk and so filled with Gratitude!
