So did I mention that I am pregnant?
About 6-8 weeks in, I started to experience a pretty intense pain in my pelvic region unlike any I'd ever experienced before. At first I ignored it, but pretty soon sex became almost unbearable, and if I didn't do something about it my husband was because he has a very lively sex drive and is not the type to just wait around for things to heal when it's his wife's jay-jay that's hurting.
I made an appointment with my OB, and she diagnosed the problem as a condition called "vulvar varicosities". For those of you unfamiliar (I know I was), vulvar varicosities is a not-too uncommon condition occurring in women who are pregnant.
Effectively, the added weight and size of the abdomen puts too much pressure on the venous tissue down in the pelvic area, causing the veins to sort of pop-out and feel like everything's just going to explode.
It's not pleasant, believe me. The good news is it's not all that serious either.
While it took a couple of weeks before I was able (willing) to have sex again, the condition did get better, and thankfully no medications were needed. I'm unusually anal about not taking ANYTHING while pregnant, and having to choose between taking a medicine and enduring the pain would have been a really tough decision.
I had to get a crotch pad called a V2 supporter, which I have to wear to bed every night (husband less than thrilled but still supportive), and I'm told that it'll barely be noticeable by the time the baby comes (another 5 months give or take).
All I can say is let's just hope so...
