Five Tell-Tale Signs That You Need to Take A Vacation
You're lounging on the warm sand of a tropical paradise with a cold drink in one hand and a hot book in the other. In the distance, you can see the ship that brought you here sailing back the way it came; you're not at all distressed to see it go. If only that island bird would stop its screeching, this would be the perfect vacation.
Wait a minute. That's no bird! The screeching is coming from the alarm clock on your nightstand. It's time to get up and prepare for another day of the rat race.
As you wipe the sleep from your bleary eyes and stumble to the coffee pot, your tired mind muses that you really, really need a vacation.
Dreaming about sand, sea and sun is only one hint that you need to check yourself out of the real world for awhile. The following signs suggest you should book that vacation as soon as possible.
1. - You're Married to Your Work
Work is always first and foremost on your mind, even when you're at home. You constantly try to problem solve and find yourself spending long (unpaid) evenings hovering over your laptop, intent on finishing that last report. Your boss has your nose so close to the grindstone that you fear your skin will never grow back. When your nine to five job threatens to consume your entire life, it's time to put in for those long-overdue vacation hours.
2. - Your Family is Walking On Eggshells
Your cheerful demeanor is a thing of the past. Anything and everything sets you off these days. Those you love are tiptoeing around, convinced that whatever they say or do will cause you to finally snap. Last Friday, you made a telemarketer cry and just this afternoon your notorious temper made the family dog run away. Once you're finished with those "Lost Dog" posters, you should probably call your travel agent.
3. - Tension Headaches Are the Norm
Tension headaches are a sign of stress. Normally felt in the back of the head, near the temples and in the shoulders, this condition can turn anyone into a world-class grump. Other signs of stress include sweating, restlessness, an elevated heart rate and the overwhelming urge to beat up Chuck Norris. The cost of the long-term health consequences associated with prolonged stress is far more than the cost of that trip to Jamaica you've been dreaming of. Book the flight. Your body will thank you.
4. - You Feel "Blah"
You're not happy. You're not sad. You're just going through the motions of life. There are plenty of terms for this feeling. For our intents and purposes, we'll use the word "blah". It's almost depression, but not quite. You've lost interest in just about everything and the people who know you best are making thinly veiled jokes about Prozac. Skip the pills and head for the hills! A change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered.
5. - Focus is a Thing of the Past
Someone tells you a joke, but by the time they've gotten to the punchline you've forgotten the lead-up. Lack of focus is a huge sign that life has gotten to be too much. Problems with memory and concentration also indicate that you need a break from the ordinary. Head for somewhere you've never been before and watch your focus improve!
Sometimes a change of scenery is exactly what you need to get your life back on track. If you find yourself experiencing any or all of the above signs, head straight for your travel agent or check out this website and book a trip to somewhere fabulous. You deserve it!
