Bike to Work Week is May 13-17, 2013 and Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 17, 2013. If you’ve ever thought about bicycle commuting, this is the perfect time to try it out.
Cities who host Bike to Work Day events typically offer many marked pit stops for bikers to stop for a break, receive kudos, and pick up a few free giveaways. It’s a great incentive to ride!
Biking to work has many health benefits (documented and sited in the following infographic):

Anyone can bike to work (regardless of fitness level). “If you can walk a mile, you can easily pedal 5. And most people, even if they’re not in top shape, can walk 3.” , according to a League of American Bicylists’ Bike to Work booklet (http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/bikemonth/pdf/BTWW_Booklet.pdf).
Make your bike commute doable for you. Use your car, vanpool, or public transportation to shorten the distance you have to bike. As your fitness and confidence level increases, so can your bike commute distance.
One option is to drive halfway to work (with your bike). Park your car. Then bike the rest of the way to work. You can park your car at a:
• Friend, family member, or co-worker’s house
• Park and Ride
• Mall
You can use any type of bike to commute to work:
• Mountain bike
• Road bike
• Hybrid
• Touring bike
Happy Bike to Work Week! Biking to work is always an option, but it’s typically promoted in May during Bike to Work Week.
