2013 has come to a close. It's time to shut out all of the negative energy that you may have felt during the past year. It's time to celebrate new beginnings and practice setting positive (and obtainable) goals in the coming year.
Here are three tips to help you with your 2014 goals:
1) Be Realistic
I have been practicing setting more realistic goals for myself lately, which has helped me come closer to reaching them. Instead of "eat healthier this year" define what healthy means. Does it mean every meal you eat needs to be healthy? If it does, you leave yourself little wiggle room. Instead, say something like, you will eat at least one healthy meal each day or more. By doing this, you are setting a base standard and working off of this to achieve your goal instead of trying to reach a bar that you have set too high for yourself.
2) Track Your Goals
It's helpful (and fun) to create a checklist of your goals. Take a sheet of paper and write down your goals to achieve on a daily (or weekly) basis. If your goal is to go to the gym more, how many times do you want to go to the gym? Make a grid with each task and the days of the week, as you complete the task, give yourself an "x" in the box. The more "x" marks the better! This is a great way to gauge how well you are doing with just a glance.
3) Check Back Often
Make sure to re-evaluate your goals two to three weeks into the new year. After this, look back in a month or so. By doing this, you can easily tell what's working and what you may need to modify to be more successful. You can always add to this later!
The main take-away from this list is to be realistic and keep yourself in check. If your goals are too high, you have less of a chance of reaching them. Similarly, the checklist is a fun way to constantly remind yourself how your goals are going. Don't be afraid to modify them throughout the year and set new ones!
So, what's your goal this year?
Happy New Year,
Jenny
