One very easy way to make a change in your health is to DRINK MORE WATER!
I know, I know you’ve heard it a thousand times before… but don’t discount it for its simplicity. Sometimes the simplest advice is the most effective. Here are a few tips for incorporating more H20 into your daily routine:
Start your day with a large glass of warm water (preferably with lemon) This powerful tonic will jumpstart your digestion, increase your alkalinity and promote detoxification of the body. Talk about setting a healthy tone for your day.
Drink a large glass of water about 20 mins before each meal. Studies have found that this can increase your metabolism, and also help you to eat less resulting in weight loss. Again you can add lemon or apple cider vinegar for an added digestive bonus!
Skip the store bought bottled water. Personally I have a problem with the soda giants like Coke and Pepsi getting richer off the sale of a commodity that should be free to every citizen of our planet… but aside from that it is an extremely wasteful and expensive habit to get into. Pick up a reusable, BPA-free water bottle and carry it with you wherever you go.
Choose water before all other beverages. That “healthy” fruit juice you give your children may contain vitamins but also contains a great deal of sugar (refined or not) and will cause an unhealthy spike in blood sugar and is not the ideal choice for quenching your thirst. Also, more water should be ingested when consuming caffeinated or alcoholic beverages.
Dehydration can be the culprit behind many common ailments, including headaches, poor digestion, constipation, inflammation and nasal congestion. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, try increasing your water intake to see if the symptoms subside.
Remember, it takes approximately 21 days for a change to become a habit… so give water a fair shot for 3 weeks and make a point to pay attention to how you feel.
A few small changes may just add up, and 2015 could end up being your healthiest year yet!
