Although I did everything in my power to prevent cancer, I still got cancer. However, the primary tumor was smaller in my breast because I did have a preventative mastectomy 5 years ago. I am thankful for that! I know what you're thinking, "How can it be? How can someone get breast cancer after having a preventative mastectomy?" Well, basically Cancer forgot to read the rule book. In my case, the procedures I underwent prevent cancer 97--99% of the time. It can never be 100% of the time, because doctors can never get 100% of your breast tissue. I even had a preventative hysterectomy to stop estrogen in my body, and I began taking an invasive breast cancer reduction medication for 5 years. And, guess what, my cancer is estrogen positive. Again, Cancer didn't read that rule either. More importantly, we are all here to show cancer its limits. We are strong and love must trump everything in this life. I have written three books. My most recent book is entitled, Angela's Decision: Outsmarting My Cancer Genes and Determining My Life. I wrote it to help women understand genetic testing, reconstruction, and mostly to help them triumph within their own journey. Once I was finished with all my radio interviews, book signings, and publicity for my book, I felt a lump under my arm at dinner one evening. A long story short, it was cancer. How disheartening. However, I believe I am here to help others through my perseverance and show that through my writing. I'm already working on a second book as a follow up. With love and strength, here's to LIMITING CANCER EVEN IF IT COMES!
