I had severe pain left lower abdomen 2 months ago and went to the ER, they did a CAT scan and ruled out diverticulitis. They performed an ultrasound and told me my left ovary was contorted and they were trying to get a hold of my doctor for surgery. The gyn on duty told them he did not believe it was contorted and had them perform the ultrasound again, both times they did a transvaginal probe. It hurt so bad I cried. The doctor and the radiologist disagreed. The severe pain( 8-9) I had lasted about 8 hrs that day. The pain lessened to a 4, and they discharged me with pain meds. It remained a 4 overnight. The next day I felt like I had surgery. (I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago, left my left ovary for hormones) Felt bad for two weeks but no severe pain. Ultrasounds showed only a 2 cm cyst, nothing in my doctors opinion that would twist an ovary. He sent me for an MRI and it said a 2cm cyst also. He tested my hormones 4 weeks after my ER trip and said I am in menopause, and since I wasn't having pain, no surgery. My question to him was does an ultrasound show a dead ovary, and his response was Yes, No, Maybe, Sometimes. I am having hot flashes galore and twinges on the left side. Am I doing the right thing or should I get a second opinion?
