I don't have coverage and can't get it until I get paid 2 weeks from now. I have been taking synthroid for 3 years since having my thyroid removed due to cancer. I have been out of my medicine now for a month and a half. I can't go to a doctor until I get paid either because they all want money up front. So today I went to the ER at Ozark Health in Clinton, AR. I told them how long I have been without and that this is the first time I've been able to hold my eyes open in 3 days. The doctor told me that it isn't an emergency and that she doesn't treat hypothyroidism. They made me an appointment for a week from now, after I told them that I can't pay for it for another week after that, but they said that's all they can do for me. Every office I've called needs money up front, including the one that they scheduled the appointment with. I'm just wondering how much longer I can go without my meds before my body starts to shut down. Also, is this some kind of malpractice on the hospital's part?? I ask because this happened once before when I ran out of medication, and the ER that I went to wrote me a 2 month script and told me after examining my medical history that I can't be without this medication, and if I found myself without it for more than a couple of days to seek out immediate attention via ER or Office visit, whichever I could get to faster.
