The Hidden Health Epidemic By Gwen Aldridge
While everybody gets riled up about these periodic health issues like
swine flu, there’s a real epidemic out there among the female population
that NOBODY’S talking about. Maybe because the symptoms are a little
embarrassing. Maybe because it can ruin your life, but it's not actually fatal. Or maybe because it’s a problem only women have…so it’s going to take women to fire up awareness.
Uterine fibroids are the big/little problem of most women over 40.
Literally one in four will have them. African American women are at even
greater risk. Uterine fibroids can cause uncontrolled bleeding, terrible
pain, fatigue and complete depression because your life is out of control.
Most gynecologists will tell you to get surgery. Overwelmingly, in fact,
they will recommend a hysterectomy. Hey, no uterus, no fibroids.
Just try to imagine if men were told to solve a prostate problem with
castration? Still, for years and years hysterectomy has been an accepted
course of treatment. It’s led to hundreds of thousands of unnecessary
operations on women. The real tragedy is that there is a proven,
non-surgical cure for fibroids. It’s called Uterine Artery Embolization.
And most women will never know about it. Because most gynecologists
won’t tell them. Why is this safe, simple treatment for fibroids not the
first course of action for every woman with fibroids? Why are so few
doctors even willing to discuss it? Why is a procedure that has helped
hundreds of thousands of women in Europe, so difficult to find in
America?
