Why is Exercise Important in Preventing or Slowing Down Osteoporosis? By Alice V. Roberts

Preventative measures are just as important to help slow down the development of osteoporosis or in living with it. If someone has been diagnosed with the disease, it’s important that they take it seriously.

A good habit of weight-bearing exercises also helps maintain strong bones, especially when the exercise works against gravity. Your daily routine might include regular weight-bearing exercises, such as dancing, walking, jogging, racquet sports, stair climbing, tennis, weight training, and using resistance machines. These exercises may strengthen your bones and help them to be less fragile and less susceptible to fractures. Always consult your doctor prior to beginning and new exercise program, especially if you have already been diagnosed with osteoporosis.
