Patient coordinator Amelia Barcenas introduces herself and shares why it is important for patients having bariatric surgery and Silver Lake Medical Center to feel comfortable.

Amelia:
Hi, I am Amelia. I am the patient coordinator for Dr. Dahiya. I run the practice. I take care of patients, and the most important thing about my job is to handle the patient from the time that they come into the office till their surgery time and after that of course their recovery and years and years after surgery.

I think it’s important for a program like us to take care of a patient from the time that he comes into the office because when a patient comes in and they are not really like that sure of what they needed for surgery, it is good to give them that extra attention and care that most other places will not give.

When a patient comes in, I make sure that they get my cell phone number, but because I think when they get that number from me, they are assured that I will answer their phone call, may they have a small question, big question, anxieties, stress. I mean, I am there for them to be able to answer and at least give them some of those feelings of assurance that the team is right there for them, that the team cares for them and, you know, that they will have a good progress out of just being a patient till their recovery and having a weight loss success journey.

And that’s important because most of these patients come in not knowing yet what is really for them and what is going to happen to them after the surgery.
