Mary Ann:
Well, when we speak with patients here about safe sex typically it would be a younger woman who is coming in maybe for their first annual exam, maybe to get started on birth control, maybe someone who is getting married in the near future. So we counsel them on the ways to make sure that they are safe, protect themselves from being exposed to STDs, sexually transmitted diseases or infections, and typically we talk to them about the ways to that, which would be either abstinence or using condoms or other protective measures.
Gonorrhea is an infection, a pelvic infection, usually travels together with chlamydia. We haven’t really seen a lot of big incidents of gonorrhea in our clinic but we do see quite a bit more of chlamydia. We used to think that those two always travel together but that’s not been the situation here; we see more chlamydia than we do gonorrhea.
