Cardiologist of St. Joseph Hospital Women’s Heart Center in Orange, CA

Dr. Shalizeh Shokooh: Since 1908, heart disease has been the No. 1 killer except in 1918 when influenza was No. 1 killer of men and women in this country… but also is that the awareness has not been there.

Women don’t go to doctors. They don’t know they have the disease and they go to their physicians, they stay unsure. There are only one-third of physicians who ask their patients whether they have the risk for a heart disease or not and because women always have been the caretaker of the family. By the time they go to the hospital they are very sick.

Dr. Shokooh is also the co-author of Women and Heart Disease, An Epidemic
