Hypochondria and Leaving Well Enough Alone

I have to admit, one of the reasons that I hesitate to go to the doctor, is for fear that they won't find anything wrong with me, and think that I'm a hypochondriac, or at least that I have some of those tendencies. Do you ever feel this way, too?

How does your marriage affect your children?

When people get married and decide as a couple to have children, they will often forget or not realize how their personal relationship with their spouse can affect their children. Children are impressionable, vulnerable and open to picking up behavior from their parents. If the relationship between the parents is not a healthy one, they are teaching their child about unhealthy relationships; while a healthy relationship between the parents will often teach the kids about how to have a healthy relationship.

Many people are not told that their loved one is going to die

A rather surprising story has come out of Sweden, regarding family members (particularly spouses) who remain uninformed of their loved one's terminal illness. Many were simply not told by doctors that their spouse's illness was terminal until right before the spouse died.

Duel of the Diets: Low-Carb Wins vs Low-Fat

(CBS/AP) The Atkins diet may have proved itself after all: A low-carb diet and a Mediterranean-style regimen helped people lose more weight than a traditional low-fat diet in one of the longest and largest studies to compare the dueling weight-loss techniques.

A bigger surprise: The low-carb diet improved cholesterol more than the other two. Some critics had predicted the opposite.

Cupping

So, I went to my acupuncturist the other day. Besides my regular acupuncture treatment, he decided to give me my first cupping treatment. I have a bad shoulder & he thought that my muscles needed to be loosened up before even a massage would even really do me any good. It was really painful, but my back feels so much better!

What you didn't learn in Geography class: Your odds of surviving cancer may depend on where you live

If you have been diagnosed with cancer, you may want to check your surroundings, because apparently where you live has an effect on your chances of survival.

It's fairly well known that poorer people and minorities have a lower survival rate of diseases like cancer due to lack of health care and at times, a lack of awareness of a good health care regime. A late diagnosis is especially to blame. I think we all know someone who is hesitant to see a doctor due to costs and waits until his or her symptoms are serious before getting care.

LONDON - Some doctors have long suspected that if the plaque that builds up in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease could be removed, they could be saved. But a new vaccine that did just that suggests the theory is wrong.

ADD/ADHD and Diet.

Recently, I had a family member consult me regarding the prescription of medication for her son who has been diagnosed with a "mild form of ADD". The physcian recommended that he be given a low dose of medication to treat his symptoms. Immediately her mother's intuition sparked and she felt that this may not be the best course of action, however, she didn't know what her options were.
