Stand up to Cancer is here. This awareness campaign, dedicated to raising money and increasing awareness of every kind of cancer, was aired on the major networks last night.
Here is how the idea started:
"After seeing what "An Inconvenient Truth" did for environmental awareness, Hollywood producer Laura Ziskin wanted to make a documentary about cancer, a disease she has fought since 2004.
Katie Couric is set to host the telethon with anchors Brian Williams, left, and Charles Gibson.

More than a year ago I finally had to admit that I could not give my best to both my employer and my kids. As a single dad, the choice was easy and I was blessed with the option of stepping off the corporate ladder - at least until my kids become drivers or are too embarrassed to be seen in public with dad - which ever comes first.

Getting and staying motivated is a state of mind, an attitude if you will. Being someone who has lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off for almost 3 years, I know a bit about it. First, I can tell you in the past what did NOT keep me motivated. Trying to be as thin as my friends, wanting to lose weight for my boyfriend, losing weight for an event or to fit into an outfit all seem like good ideas but in reality they are desires not necessarily motivators. Most of my teens and 20's I spent longing to be thinner and this, apparently, did NOT keep me motivated.

You would think that the controversy surrounding vaccinations and their alleged link to autism would have parents retreating from immunizations.
Not so says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which claims toddlers received the recommended vaccinations at record levels in 2007.
A record 77.4 percent of children in this age group received the full recommended series of vaccinations, the centers said.
The one exception was the four doses of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis or whooping cough vaccine, received by 84.5 percent of toddlers, the centers said.

In most cases, a person who appears to suffer from a type of depression will often have a reason for it. In other words, the depression has been brought on or encouraged by an event, or something has happened to that individual, either in their youth or adulthood, that they have not been able to deal with. There are, however, cases where the individual does not seem to have a reason for their depression. They show all the symptoms of depression, but there just not seems to be any apparent cause for it. This is when the patient would probably be diagnosed with endogenous depression.

The National Academy of Sciences recently published a report showing that people who spend time or money helping others are happier and less likely to be depressed. For the study, brain activity of the participants was monitored by MRI scans as they made certain decisions.
Read more about this feel good research and learn why focusing on the needs of others causes us to shift our way of thinking - and feeling.
