Laser Hair Removal: Is The Lumenis™ LightSheer Diode™ Effective On All Hair Colors? - Dr. Laris

Dr. Laris:

One of the most common questions that I get asked is, does the LiteSheer™ work for any hair color? And as long as there’s contrast between the skin and the hair it will work.

So if you have dark hair and very light skin, that’s the best scenario. But if you have light hairs, white hairs and darker skin, the hair will not grab the heat and will not get rid of the hair follicle. So it works up to a certain point.

Unfortunately today, in today’s market, there’s no great product as far as laser hair removal that will remove light hairs on darker complexions and white hairs, it’s virtually impossible to get rid of.

What we hope some times is when we have a mixture of salt and pepper, that as we are heating up the tissues and the pepper hairs, the blacker hairs, grab the heat from the laser.

It will heat up the surrounding tissue and will have some loss of those lighter hairs as well. But there’s no laser in the market right now that will get rid of white or very blonde hairs.

For the people that we can’t get rid of the hair, the blonde hairs or white hairs, don’t be afraid to shave or wax or pluck.

As a woman, a lot of women won’t want to shave little hairs on their chin that are white because they feel like it will grow back thicker and darker and that’s not true. So don’t be afraid to do that.
