Dr. Brazinsky discusses the symptoms of sleep apnea.

Dr. Brazinsky:
Daytime sleepiness, profound daytime sleepiness, they need to take a nap during the day, waking up in the morning not feeling refreshed, morning headaches, hypertension, high blood pressure, and then snoring. Those are really the main things that people will either complain of or admit to when you really start talking to them.

If a patient comes in and they think they might have sleep apnea, you kind of go through the history with them but if there’s a question, they should have a sleep study. There’s really no way to know what someone has until you get them in the sleep lab and see what they’re doing.

I’ve had many people who come in, think they have sleep apnea and turn out they have restless leg syndrome with just some snoring.
