Elisabeth:

I had a pars L5 fracture, and Dr. Raiszadeh performed an L5-S1 fusion. I knew that my back would hurt, but I didn’t realize that my abdomen would hurt, that all the muscles in my back would hurt. They were amazing at controlling the pain in the hospital, and once I got home the oral pain meds I was taking were great, and I definitely would recommend following what the doctor says--to take the pain meds.

I thought that I was strong, couple of days post-op after I was home, and I thought I could try and wean myself off, that I didn’t need them. It was not the case. I ended up needing pain meds for at least two months, a good two months, and if anyone’s concerned about taking the pain meds or being addicted to the pain meds, your body kind of tells you when you don’t need them, shorter or longer for some people, but you really do need them.
