Dr. Terris shares how long a thyroidectomy procedure generally takes.
Dr. Terris:
Typically--it depends on the experience of the surgeon--but typically it’s about an hour to take out half of the thyroid, up to two hours to take out the whole thyroid, but in less experienced hands that can take three or four hours. If one uses a very large incision, it can be a little bit shorter.
