Massage always came naturally to me even at a young age.
One day when I was eight, I really, really, wanted to go to the park to
ride my bike with my friends. My mom said that we could not go because
her neck was hurting her so bad it was giving her a headache.
So what did I know about hurt necks and headaches? I was eight, but I still really,
really, wanted to go to the park to ride my bike with my friend's... Without any
training of any kind, I just went over to my mom and pinched her neck for a
minute or two. Then after I was done, she stood up and said “Wow, my neck
feels so much better even my headache is gone. Let’s go to the park!”
So I got to ride my bike with my friends at the park.
It was so great that I was able to help my mom feel better. I did only what
came naturally to me and I got to go to the park. From that moment on,
I knew that I wanted to help people, like I helped my mom. Although I
did not know the word massage, or that there was even a career in it,
or anything about it at all.
Years later, when I was 15 we were in a mild accident so
we went to the chiropractor. After several appointments my mom
just had to tell the chiropractor about when I was eight and how I
massaged her neck and made her feel better. The chiropractor told
me that I was a massage therapist. I did not even know what that was,
He said that I should massage him to see if he thought I was any good.
I massaged him on the chiropractic table for somewhere between
ten to twenty minutes. I asked him if that was long enough to be able
to tell or not, but there was no response from him. So, me being so
inexperienced at the time, I left him there on the chiropractic
table and went to go wash my hands and to meet him
out front. I was surprised that I beat him to the front area of the office.
He did not come out for ten minutes. The secretaries repeatedly
asked me what I did to him and where he was and when would he be coming out,
because there were patients waiting for him. He finally emerged from his
office stammering and wobbly. He told the secretaries right in front of
the patients in the waiting room, that he was going home for the rest of the
day and to cancel all his appointments. Just before he stumbled out the
door he said “You’re hired! Can you start tomorrow? Your better then
the massage therapist that we have, who has been here for years” My
mom told him that I was only 15 and that he could not hire me.
He said that I was that good that it did not matter how old I was,
My mom was hesitant, but said ok. Then he left for home.
I showed up the next day to start working as a massage therapist
after high school. Now in you can work under a
chiropractor’s license as long as they believe in you enough and
or you are enrolled in school. I guess he believed in me enough because
I was not enrolled in a school for massage at that time.
One day someone asked my dad what his son did for a living. That’s
when he was told I was supposed to be enrolled in massage school
within one year of accepting the job. I immediately enrolled in a massage
school (with a glowing recommendation from my chiropractor) in New York,
“The New Center for Wholistic Education and Research
School for Massage Therapy” It was a three thousand plus hour program.
All of their treatments are based on a very sound understanding of the
human physiological model derived from the yin and yang principle. I loved it.
It was the best experience of my life. Gaining all that knowledge at once
really made everything seem so clear. I knew my direction in life and how
I was to live it out, how to increase my sensitivity to the
human body and all its greatness.
Twenty years later...
I set a world record for the longest massage on one person and
I give the best massage in the world,
Guaranteed of its free!
How cool is that?!
